Families Succeed Together
Wellspring studies show that teens are more likely to lose weight successfully if their parents choose a healthy lifestyle with them. For this reason, Wellspring Vancouver makes it a priority to involve the entire family in the weight loss success of their camper.
Many parents report losing weight right along with their child both during and after camp. In fact, family surveys following camp indicate that 40% of Wellspring parents lose more than 9kg. Add that weight loss to their child’s weight loss, and you have entire families losing weight and getting healthy together. Now that’s an investment in a healthy lifestyle that benefits the entire family!

Wellspring Vancouver Family Workshop
Twice over the course of the summer, Wellspring Vancouver hosts a Family Workshop Weekend. Since becoming a long-term weight controller is a complete lifestyle change, it is very important that families are as supportive as possible and establish an encouraging home environment for campers. Under the leadership of Wellspring clinical professionals, families quickly become experts on what has occurred at camp, and what they can do at home to ensure continued weight loss results.

Wellspring is so certain of the importance of a supportive home environment that an additional incentive is provided: the full cost of the workshop ($300 or CAD 320) is refunded to families who attend.
Some highlights of Family Workshop Weekend are:
- Families receive the tools that campers have been using at camp (textbooks, self-monitoring journals, pedometers, calorie counters)
- Parents commit to following the Wellspring program for the length of the workshop to help them understand the main components of the lifestyle change and what their child has experienced at camp
- Family CBT sessions with Behavioural Coaches are scheduled
- Culinary and nutrition overviews and demonstrations are provided
Parents work with Wellspring Directors and Behavioural Coaches to develop a plan for the transition home in order to support the returning camper and maximize the probability of continued weight loss.
